# Excel Assignments

Excel Assignments let students complete spreadsheet work — models, calculations, and analyses — directly in Microsoft Excel, with each student receiving unique data and their work auto-graded. They run through the EXAMIND Excel add-in.

{% hint style="info" %}
Excel Assignments are the [Excel Workbook question type](/v1/examind-platform/build/question-builder/question-types/excel-workbook.md) delivered through the add-in. This section covers the student side — installing and using it.
{% endhint %}

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Installation</strong></td><td>Set up the EXAMIND Excel add-in.</td><td><a href="/pages/S1uvAds0lbzfiDLfuqb1">/pages/S1uvAds0lbzfiDLfuqb1</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Troubleshooting</strong></td><td>Fix common add-in and sign-in issues.</td><td><a href="/pages/VREKSsID1hw6M8SV3jk8">/pages/VREKSsID1hw6M8SV3jk8</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## How it works

* **Unique data per student.** Each student receives their own variables and datasets, so no two submissions are alike — academic integrity by design.
* **Automatic grading.** Submissions are graded against the assignment's answer logic, like other EXAMIND question types.
* **Real Excel, not a simulation.** Students work in Microsoft Excel through the EXAMIND add-in.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://examind.gitbook.io/v1/examind-platform/deliver/excel-assignments.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
