# Overview

EXAMIND is built on a simple thesis: every assessment should be fully auto-graded, give students meaningful feedback, and stand up to modern academic-integrity threats — whether the work is quantitative (calculations, journal entries, Excel models) or qualitative (essays, case studies, memos).

## What makes a good assessment

We believe every assessment should aim for:

1. High student satisfaction (NPS 50+).
2. An inclusive, accessible experience (WCAG 2.1 Level AA).
3. A healthy distribution of scores (≈70% class average, \~10% standard deviation).\*
4. A design in tune with the modern world — incorporating AI rather than only restricting it.

\*Exceptions occur — for example, bimodal distributions in subjects like Organic Chemistry.

## How we approach academic integrity

Our goal is to **prevent cheating — or make it not worth attempting — before relying on catching it after the fact.** Gathering evidence of misconduct is a fallback, not the first line of defense.

We also believe protection should be **proportionate to the stakes and as invisible as possible to honest students.** Good integrity measures shouldn't add anxiety or surveillance for the students doing the right thing.

**Where assessment design is decisive.** EXAMIND's [dynamic question engine](/v1/examind-platform/build/question-builder/dynamic-questions.md) gives every student a unique variant, which makes **shared, leaked, and copied answers worthless** — neutralizing a whole family of cheating (answer-sharing, copying, and leaked content) at its root.

**Where design needs help.** Design alone doesn't stop every threat. **AI-assisted cheating, contract cheating, and the use of a second device** call for complementary layers — most importantly [online proctoring](/v1/our-approach/online-proctoring.md) for remote, high-stakes exams. Honest integrity today is **design plus the right controls**, not design alone.
